Written as a reflection on my second annual trip to Mountain Jam musical festival.
Hunter Mountain is majesty, magical motherly
earth. Uneven and green
whose skies remind the tiny individual
to look up.
Look up to the heavens, the constituent stars
shy at times, come out to share
glimpses and sparkly peaks at their
less-than-understood aesthetic
and boundless wonder. Beautiful is
understated (and everywhere) and
the challenge of her rocky, muddy ascension
becomes part of the (her) allure.
Here city friends becomes music and nature's muses.
House dwellers step outside.
Musicians get on stage, blending genre and generation.
Earth wears when mixed with nature's bountiful tears,
the resulting mud gleams and
encourages slippery dancing and skillful falling.
Strangers are strange and friendly-
Friends are family, family is one,
one are connected perpetually
but that is forgotten for the majority.
It's when the union, the yolking earth
mother Hunter (or any other earthly locale)
and musical, artistic, loving intentions and time
are one and on the timeline appear as a
dark cohesive dot.
Cohesion is seasonal.
Festivals aren't always.
Reunion is optional and
challenging as it tears us all (all who choose)
to leave the typical (and pause)
and enter the magical (and have planned, and enjoy)
and then again return (at the agreed upon end.)
Returning is a lesson and our awareness,
perceptive angles and hearts are the gurus.
Our gurus who know and suggest gently we learn
(I, you, others) and softly poke and blow lessons
in our directions from universe and particular earth
on a cycle until absorbed and learned.
When needed not, we (I, you) see not, hear not,
understand not. Alternatively when open to,
taking-in is an undertaking chosen (decided on willingly)
by us (you, me)
