My Feet Remember

Two paths divergent
at a burn
and I choose love
characterised by a man
smiling in a dress
leading me away from
what I have long defined as home.
I choose the path but my feet remember
other walks
The life of before
and my legs get jumbled
like a baby deer's
all in a heap
i've fallen before
but never like this.

energy to dettach
from 1,000 old selves
identities that were facades
and survival tactics
now rearing heads
as childish defenses
I'm in a heap then
on my feet
To take the leap
we take it.

I can be composed
when I pay attention
a life together
another dimension
of a life examined
