Tiny Miracles (A poem to navigate grief)

For your grief

Through my period of darkness and grief
I came to know my beating heart
The depth of loss
Turned the light on love.
I see love shining through.

All the pain you feel
I’ll shine her love on you.

I love you
No matter who you are
For I have known pain and
Therefore I know you
Therefore I am you
We hurt and we love
Darkness and bleak dreary weight
Bones so heavy that arms can’t lift
Grief so draining
And yet
once you can move through the thick smog of loss
Just enough to see there is a point far enough across
Beyond where all you know is this pain
And what if???
And how I could it be different???
I’ll be there
Showering you with the rain of self compassion
So that you may hold yourself dear
And love shines through your heart again

I know your pain
Though it differs from mine
I hold you in your moment of loss
Golden waves of sparkling light
I send to you
Safety
Warmth
Love
Protection
Respite
And I pray that you find
The tender depth of your heart
On the other side of this
The waves may be huge
And you, a weary swimmer
Yet the tides will bring you to shore
And the soothing oceanic breathing
Of a body of water
The womb of earth and water
The baking sun sending rays of just-baked cookie warmth to your cheeks

One drop of sweat

These tiny miracles

And you’ll find yourself weeping
In gratitude
For these tiny gifts
Are momentous
Tremendous
Your heart so full
I see the light of love for you
Even though your back is to her
Shining
Facing the darkness
You will sink deeper
Don’t be afraid
Go
Go all the way into the haunted house of your broken heart
Ghoulish and scary
To face the fear inside
The pain
And when you come out
Through the archway doors
Dazzled in drops of sun setting sweetness
Birds singing your name
A gust of wind bringing tears to your eyes
You will feel that which I have felt
That your heart is capable of so much love
That you light up the entire sky
Orange hues of happiness
Your peace shared across the horizons

Immense

And we all take it in
Awestruck with the beauty
That your love light shines
After a broken heart
You will awaken again
More capable of love than ever before
